The Hinsdale Central Red Devils continued their mastery of rival Hinsdale South in the Doings Cup series Friday night. According to High School Cube News:
Hinsdale Central 17, Hinsdale South 7
THE SKINNY: Senior running back Ben Stefani scored twice and registered career highs for carries and yards in a single game as Hinsdale Central won the 31st annual Doings Cup over District 86 neighbor Hinsdale South. The Devils won the annual showdown for the 12th consecutive year and leads the series 19-12.
TURNING POINT: Before the opening kickoff, senior Juwan Edmond, Central's second leading rusher, was ruled out with a sprained right ankle suffered during practice Tuesday. Edmond leads the team in carries (83) and touchdowns (seven) and his absence put the load on Stefani as the team's workhorse. Edmond is expected to return next week.
THE STAR: It was all Stefani (28 carries, 150 yards), starting with Central's first series when he carried the ball all six plays for 57 yards and scored on a 2-yard run. His second TD came on a 14-yard run in the third quarter to put the Devils (4-3) ahead 17-0. The only score for the Hornets (3-4) came on a 77-yard pass from Rob Regan to Mark Watson.
