73 Silver gets early jump on South Elgin Patriots Red
Riding high entering Sunday’s showdown with the South Elgin Patriots carrying a 2-0 record, the Falcons soared to an 18-14 victory at home.
The first half was dominated by the defensive efforts of Kody Walker, Mason Shaker, AJ Panos, Jack Bauer, Calum Kelly, Michael Spitzer and Andrew Fix on the line, and cornerbacks Jack Treiber and Dean Kamenev.
A critical fumble recovery by the Falcons’ Carter Lyons ended the deadlock and set up the first score of the day, by Joey Antonietti with a quarterback keeper.
With the Falcons protecting a 6-0 entering the fourth, Silver’s offense got on track. Again it was a fumble recovery that kick-started the Falcons, this time by a quick-thinking, fast-moving Kelly. Sean Allison widened the lead 12-0 on a quarterback keeper through the path cleared by linemen Bauer, Kelly, Lynden McCarroll, AJ Panos, Shaker and Spitzer, and running backs Lyons and Steven Schnur.
After the Patriots got on the board with a well-executed reverse, the Falcons answered with a third touchdown, by Lyons. McCarroll and Spitzer delivered a sack with three minutes remaining.
With their third victory under their belts, the Falcons take their undefeated record on the road to Wheaton this weekend.
