FRANKLIN PARK — Senior running back Jack Adams had another big game for the Devils (2-0), rushing for career-best 188 yards on 26 carries to spark Hinsdale Central to a 17-3 win on the road over Leyden.

He scored an insurance touchdown late in the game on a 43-yard run for his third score of the season.

Leyden (1-1) drove to the Hinsdale Central 4-yard line with 7:18 remaining while trailing 10-0. Eagles coach Tom Cerasani chose to kick a field goal, but gambled that his team could reach Devils’ territory a second time for a potential touchdown. With less than two minutes, Leyden drove to the Devils’ 13, but turned the ball over on downs.

“They are a much better team than they have been in previous years,” said Hinsdale Central coach Rich Tarka of the Eagles.

Leyden ended a streak of seven consecutive shutout quarters for the Hinsdale Central defense with Mark Wach’s 21-yard field.

The Eagles host defending West Suburban Gold champion Addison Trail in Week 3.

Devils quarterback Brian Owens (6-of-14, 2 interceptions, 65 yards, TD) will lead his team against Proviso West next week.
