Those top finishers included: Lia Fawley, fourth grade (Prospect), Nick Lynch, fifth grade (Prospect), Daniel Piniero, seventh grade (HMS), Finn Voorhees, eighth grade (HMS), Adam Tweardy, seventh grade (CHMS), and Joey Kolnicki, sixth grade (CHMS).
The words students were asked to spell included: angelic, safari, stoic, windily, nether, admiral, pretzel, grabble, barrow, fathom, knapsack, ductile, quiver and tithe. At the conclusion, Lynch was the top finalist and Fawley finished second; both represented the district at the County Bee on Feb. 20.
CHMS Language Arts teacher Marie Bond coordinated the event, with assistance from colleagues Vivian Beach, Cheryl Esparza, Jennifer McCredy and Danielle Scacco. Retired teacher Nancy Grapenthien served as the word caller.
