Hinsdale Middle School students create snowflakes for Sandy Hook

HINSDALE — Students at Hinsdale Middle School joined peers around the country in participating in Snowflakes for Sandy Hook, a project that has students creating paper snowflakes.
The finished designs will help to create a “winter wonderland” at Chalk Hill School, the school that Sandy Hook Elementary students will attend following their holiday break.
The Connecticut Parent-Teacher-Student Association is spearheading the effort, noting on its website, “Connecticut PTSA is deeply saddened by the tragedy that has struck our Newtown community. We have met with the PTA and community leaders in Newtown and Sandy Hook Elementary to offer our assistance at this very difficult time.”
The snowflake project is one of several initiatives being led by the Connecticut PTSA.
In addition to the snowflake creation during the day, HMS students volunteered to come after school to make snowflakes with the art club, citing that they felt bad about what happened in Connecticut and that the effort was for a good cause.
“Making the snowflakes is giving something that is you because it’s unique,” said sixth-grader Ella Baderman.
Classmate Skylar Smith agreed.
“This project is different because we aren’t giving money, we are giving our time. I think that means more,” she said.
