HINSDALE — Adventist Hinsdale Hospital’s new cancer center will be a two-story building on the northeast corner of Ogden Avenue and Salt Creek Lane.
Michael Goebel, the hospital’s chief executive officer, explained cancer treatment services, including radiation now done at La Grange Memorial Hospital, will be together under one roof.
Oncology and radiation services, including 21 private rooms and five open bays for chemotherapy, will be on the first floor. Imaging services and hospital staff will be on the second floor.
“I’m really excited about this,” said Hinsdale Plan Commission member Steve Cashman after reveiwing the plans March 13. “This property has been poorly used and under developed for a long time.”
Plan Commission members liked the landscape plan, which shows more than 250 trees and a healing garden for patients and staff.
Cashman advised the project’s architect to add more handicap parking, as medical facilities are required to designate 10 percent of their parking spaces for the disabled.
A detention pond will be built at the southwest corner of the site, near Ogden and the exit ramp from Interstate 294.
The hospital traffic consultant predicts once the center is operating, it will add 53 more cars to the morning rush hour and 106 in the afternoon.
To improve the traffic flow, a left turn signal will be added to the signal on Ogden at Salt Creek Lane; and Spinning Wheel Road will no longer connect with Ogden. Instead Spinning Wheel will connect with Salt Creek Lane.
