HINSDALE — Eve Assisted Living in Hinsdale expects to welcome new residents by Feb. 1

The facility, at 10 N. Washington St., has been hosting open houses to interest senior citizens in its living accommodations.

Eve has a total of 52 studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites in its three-story building, just west of the Hinsdale Public Library. The building formerly housed the Washington Square retirement community.

Residents will be served three meals a day, plus snacks; however, the suites include a kitchen with granite counters, refrigerators and microwave ovens, but no stove tops.

The apartments are equipped with high-end furnishings that are also handicap-accessible, such as walk-in showers, with no barrier to step over.

“We’re trying to make it look as uninstitutional as possible,” said Mitch Hamblet, president of Eden Hinsdale, LLC, which is the parent company of Eve Assisted Living.

Eve also has space for 12 people with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia in its memory wing.

The size of the facility, its density and who it would serve were debated during a months-long review process in 2011. The Hinsdale Village Board ultimately approved a special use permit for Eden to open an assisted living residence for people age 55 or older, with a capacity of 68. Several town houses on the property were demolished to add more open space to the development.

Several people already have signed up to live in Eve, but their move-in date was delayed until the end of January, so no one would feel like they were living alone in the facility, Marketing Director Nancy Trainor said.

Services include helping residents with bathing, dressing, taking medications and wellness checks, as needed. Independent contractors will provide physical, occupational and life skills therapy.

The facility will have a fitness center, beauty shop and spa. Wireless Internet access is available in the common rooms.

Accommodations are private pay only. To tour the facility or learn the costs, call Nancy Trainor at (630) 491-1000.
