HINSDALE — Residents can read 25 different magazines on their computer, smartphone or tablet, through the Hinsdale Public Library.
The library has digital subscriptions to a variety of magazines, from Newsweek to Thrasher, a publication about skateboarding.
“There’s a little bit for everybody,” said Karen Kleckner Keefe, executive director.
The library pays a fee for each magazine it offers digitally through a mobile reading application named Zinio.
“The prices are comparable for digital and print,” Kleckner Keefe said.
But only one person at a time can read the print subscription.
Magazines availabe digitally include Business Traveler, ESPN, Martha Stewart Living, Seventeen and Barbie. Three of the most popular have been Esquire, Food Network and Us Weekly.
“We looked at what was most popular with our readers in print when we chose the Zinio titles,” Kleckner Keefe said. Lifestyle and entertainment magazines ranked high, she said.
Hinsdale residents can access the magazines from the library website, www.hinsdalelibrary.info. The library website will direct readers to the Zinio portal.
The library also has its librarians accessible through texting. To ask a librarian a question, text “Hinsdale” to 66746. An automatic response will instruct you how to proceed. ~.
