The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Hinsdale Police Department.

DECEPTIVE PRACTICE

A resident was cheated out of $3,000 when she believed a telephone call that she had won $300,000. The caller told her she had to send $3,000 to collect her winnings. The woman mailed a personal check to an address in another state on Jan. 4. The woman reported it to the police Jan. 8 when she realized the call was a scam.

THEFT

A thief stole a credit card from an employee’s purse at Yankee Peddler, at 16 E. First St., between 4:20 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. Jan. 12. Later the same day, the stolen credit card was used to make an unauthorized purchase at another store. The credit card was in a wallet in the purse, which was behind a counter. The wallet was not taken. The employee believes two customers in the store may have intentionally distracted her to steal her card.

VANDALISM

A vandal damaged two plastic Santa Claus and a reindeer on the 500 block of North Vine between 9 p.m. Jan. 8 and 5 p.m. Jan. 9. The decorations were valued at $170.~.
