HINSDALE — Sixty-five children and adults had breakfast with Santa Claus Saturday morning in the Katherine Legge Memorial Lodge in Hinsdale.

The lodge provided a cozy setting to meet Santa, said Gina Hassett, Hinsdale’s director of parks and recreation.

Children can muster up the courage to talk to Santa while relaxing and having breakfast, rather than standing in line at a shopping mall, Hassett said.

The following day, Hinsdale children and their families could board the Polar Express at the Hinsdale Metra station and ride to meet Santa at the North Pole. The Aurora Metra station served as the North Pole for the outing.

Metra train cars were reserved at 9 a.m. and at 11 a.m. for the round-trip, which included a buffet meal in the Roundhouse restaurant in Aurora, photos with Santa and holiday crafts. About 300 residents registered for the event, Hassett said.

“It was a full day, Kids were falling asleep in their parents’ arms on the ride home,” she said.
