Caucus committee names Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills District 181 candidates

HINSDALE — The nominating committee of the Hinsdale Village Caucus has slated three newcomers as School Board candidates.
The entire caucus is to vote on the nominating committee’s choices for Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 on Nov. 28. Candidates will be running for a four-year term in the April 9 election.
Recommended candidates are Gary Clarin of Clarendon Hills, and Mridu Garg and Jill S. Vorobiev of Hinsdale. They were chosen from a field of 13 applicants
“We were very happy with the number of candidates; we reached out to more than 100 people, and we had 13 outstanding people interested,” said Scott Morris, chairman of the District 181 nominating committee. “The quality of the people was very high; their educational background, community service, and passion for the schools was outstanding.”
The terms of board members Sarah Lewensohn, Yvonne Mayer and Russell Rhoads expire in 2013.
Mayer and Rhoads said they are not seeking re-election; Lewensohn said she has not yet decided on her plans.
Clarin has lived in the Walker School area of Clarendon Hills for 23 years. He has three adult children and for the past 21 years has owned Meilahn Manufacturing Company, a commercial interior millwork business. His wife, Jan, teaches music and drama at Hinsdale Middle School.
Garg has lived in The Lane School area of Hinsdale for the past four years and has two children attending that school. The main focus of her career has been in information technology. Currently, Garg is a stay-at-home mom and has been very involved in The Lane School PTO.
Vorobiev has lived for the past 15 years in the Madison School area of Hinsdale. She has two children, one at Hinsdale Middle School and one at Hinsdale Central.
She works at a law firm, practicing labor law and employment litigation. Vorobiev also has served on several PTO committees.
While the caucus has traditionally been the way offices are filled, it does not prevent potential candidates from running independently. Nominating petition forms will be available at the District 181 offices, 6010 S. Elm St., Burr Ridge. The filing deadline is Dec. 24.
