Disaster plans being laid in DuPage County

WHEATON — DuPage County officials want to reduce the chances that people will get hurt the next time Mother Nature acts up.

The county’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has set a public meeting to go over a new plan designed to improve the planning and response to natural disasters. The Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan will be discussed at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 in room 3500-B of the Jack T. Knuepfer Administration Building, 421 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton.

The public is invited to come to the meeting and provide their input for the planning process, during which “communities will work together to establish goals and develop strategies to reduce the long-term effects of natural hazards,” the Office of Homeland Security said in a news release.

“DuPage County is no stranger to damage from flooding and severe storms,” County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said in the release. “By working together, we can create a comprehensive plan to protect our communities from the damages caused by future natural disasters.”
