HINSDALE

Hinsdale village officials and the village’s newly unionized public works employees agreed to a five-year contract that increases salaries at least 10.5 percent over five years.

The village’s 16 public works employees joined the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150 this year, Hinsdale Village Manager David Cook said.

Village President Thomas Cauley, Jr. reported the employees on Sept. 10 ratified the agreement, which is retroactive to May. The employees received a 2.5 raise in this, the first year of the contract, and will receive 2 percent salary increases in each of the next four years.

In addition, the employees will receive annual “step” increases of 2.75 percent beginning in 2014, if their work is found satisfactory.

Prior to the new agreement, the hourly wage for crew workers and mechanics ranged from $20.74 to $30.86.

The Hinsdale Village Board unanimously approved the contract Thursday, Sept. 13.~.
