HINSDALE — In an effort to save lives and reduce serious injuries, the Hinsdale Police Department, along with thousands of law enforcement agencies across the country, participated in an enforcement initiative to crackdown on drunk and unbelted drivers.
During the aggressive enforcement period that ran from Aug. 17 through Sept. 3, 108 citations were issued for failing to wear safety belts, 36 were issued for speeding, seven were issued for driving under the influence, three for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, one for a child passenger safety violation, 1 for for possession of marijuana, 1 for possession of drug paraphernalia, 1 for driving while license suspended and 45 for other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.
The Hinsdale Police Department received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this effort. Grant funding allows the police department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement of the seat belt, driving under the influence and speed laws.
