Hinsdale parking change proposed for 57th Street

HINSDALE — The Hinsdale Village Board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on changing the parking restrictions on 57th Street to the south of Hinsdale Central High School.
Currently, there is no parking allowed on the north side of 57th Street between Grant and Madison streets and parking only during limited times on the south side of 57th Street. Village officials are considering reversing that, with no parking allowed at all on the south side because there are more homes and consequently, more driveways, on the south side.
There are 17 driveways on the south of 57th Street in that stretch compared with three driveways on the north side, the Police Department reported. Therefore, more residents are forced to back out of their driveways between parked cars on the south side than the north. Many drivers going to high school games at the ballfields on 57th street park along the street.
Allowing parking on the north side where there are few driveways would mean more spaces would be available for parking.
If the parking restrictions are reversed, only residents would be able to park on the north side of 57th between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. (to preclude students from parking there). Between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. anyone could park there for up to two hours at a time. No parking at all would be allowed on the south side of 57th between Grant and Madison.
