HINSDALE — The Police Department will teach a Safety and Self-Defense class for female high school and college-age students on Aug. 16. The class will last 2.5 hours and cover how to stay alert and be prepared in many situations, and teach self-defense techniques.

Students will spend half the time in the classroom and the other half learning self-defense maneuvers, practicing them, and then using them in a controlled situation.

The class aims to teach young women to be prepared for anything and everything and how to avoid becoming a victim.

The class will run from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, at the Hinsdale Police Department, 121 Symonds Drive.

Space is limited, so students must register in advance.

To register or for more information, contact officer Michael Coughlin at the Hinsdale Police Department, (630) 789-7084 or email him at mcoughlin@villageofhinsdale.org.
