Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 Board

Among other business at their meeting Monday, board members:
said goodbye to Troy Whelan, assistant superintendent of business, and Rita DuChateau, director of communications. Whelan will be leaving to be a superintendent in Summit Elementary District 104; and DuChateau will be retiring to Colorado. Also leaving the district are administrators Pam Kazee, assistant superintendent for pupil services, who is heading to the same position in Maine Township High School District 207; and Mary Ticknor, associate superintendent, who will superintendent for Lemont High School District 210.
honored Mike Smith, a crossing guard for 10 years, for his “steadfast attention to safety, vigilance against vandalism and concern for the security of Elm School.”
agreed to put the district’s budget on display to the public. The balanced budget includes $1.1 million in contingencies. Board member Mike Nelson noted the district will need to start building its reserves for anticipated state pension reform which could hit local districts hard.
approved changing “gifted” in its policies to “advanced learning”
put the district’s mission vision on display to the public
accepted gifts of $100 from the household of Basil Godellas for the purchase of books for Elm School students and staff, and $678 from Jozef Kavuliak, Jim Deering, Paul Brugge and John McMahon families for the purchase of a button maker for Walker School students and staff.
