Among other business at their meeting Monday, board members:

approved a 2.25 percent raise for support staff and administrators. The amount is the blended consumer price index of the past two years, 1.5 percent and 3 percent, board President Dennis Brennan said. The raise applies to 218 support staff and 13 administrators. The board previously approved the same raise for District 86 Superintendent Nicholas Wahl.

were presented the preliminary budget for the 2012-2013 school year, which forecasts a $593,000 surplus in its operating funds

heard from Douglas Lim of Gilbane Construction Management that work was proceeding on schedule and within budget at Central and South high schools

recognized the boys tennis and track teams for their state championships

recognized David Bonner for receiving the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching

reported that Hinsdale Central High School was ranked sixth in Illinois and 177th in the nation on Newsweek magazine’s list of America’s Best High Schools, out of 21,776 schools reviewed. Hinsdale South ranks 21st in the state and 444th in the nation. The ranking is based on graduation and college matriculation rates, average SAT/ACT scores and Advanced Placement courses offered. The district previously announced Central placed sixth in Illinois and 235th in the country out of 21,776 schools reviewed for the U.S. News and World Report.
