From May 11 to May 28, the Hinsdale Police Department engaged in an aggressive enforcement to crack down on drunken drivers and those not wearing seat belts, joining police departments across the country in similar campaigns.

Hinsdale officers arrested six people for driving under the influence and issued 26 citations for speeding. Thirty-nine citations were written for failure to wear seat belts; one citation was issued for a child passenger safety violation. Two drivers were ticketed for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and 39 citations were written for other Illinois Vehicle Code violations.

The Hinsdale Police Department received a state grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation to participate in this effort to save lives and reduce serious injuries.

Grant funding allows the Police Department to assign additional officers for dedicated enforcement of the seat belt, driving under the influence and speed laws.
