A 7-foot-tall backpack puppet named the Crazy Lady of the Castle helps the main character, Rose, on her journey in Madcap Puppets’ original musical version of “Rumpelstiltskin” at 7 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the La Grange Public Library, 10 W. Cossitt Ave. The musical was adapted from an earlier Madcap show by Dylan Shelton, creative director.

“It’s a 45-minute puppet musical based closely on the Grimm fairy tale,” Shelton said.

Some new characters are introduced, though, including that Crazy Lady. Two performers handle all the puppets and also play human characters. There’s a lot of audience involvement, including in one key role.

“Most of our shows are not musicals,” Shelton reported. “It’s really fun for me to see a Madcap show that employs music. The songs are a lot of fun and they’re kind of catchy. Every time I see the show, I end up humming one of the tunes.”

Registration is required.
