Fenwick grad Ryan takes pair of fifths for Irish at OSU Invite

Kelly Ryan, a Fenwick alumna and member of the Notre Dame women’s swim team, helped the Irish finish fifth at the Ohio State Invitational Nov. 30–Dec. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
Ryan took fifth place in both the 200-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle. The junior from Hinsdale was the top Notre Dame finisher in both events. She was also part of the seventh-place 400 freestyle relay team.
Fellow Fenwick graduate Julie Samuelson, a senior swimmer for Monmouth, helped her team to a fifth-place finish at the Pioneer Classic Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 in Grinnell, Iowa.
Samuelson was on the 13th-place 200 freestyle relay team, and she finished 53rd in the 50 freestyle, 43rd in the 200 freestyle and 51st in the 100 freestyle.
Several other area athletes also competed in the Pioneer Classic.
Rachel von Holst, Glenbrook North alumna and freshman on the host Grinnell team, swam in the 200 freestyle relay (22nd place) and 400 freestyle relay (22nd). Individually, she swam in the 50 freestyle (66th), 100 breaststroke (19th) and 100 freestyle (63rd). The Grinnell women captured the championship.
Taylor Sutschek, a Maine South alumna and Monmouth freshman, swam in the 200 freestyle relay (13th), 200 medley relay (11th), 800 freestyle relay (fifth) and 400 freestyle relay (14th). Individually, she swam in the 500 freestyle (23rd), 50 freestyle (29th), 200 freestyle (20th), 100 backstroke (15th) and 200 backstroke (17th).
Alexsandra Voelker, a Libertyville alumna and Carroll junior, swam in the 200 freestyle relay (25th), 200 medley relay (23rd) and 400 freestyle relay (26th). Individually, she swam in the 50 freestyle (79th), 200 freestyle (62nd) and 100 freestyle (73rd). The Carroll women finished sixth.
Haley Levin, a Deerfield alumna and Grinnell freshman, swam in the 200 freestyle (second), 400 medley relay (second), 200 medley relay (second), 800 freestyle relay (second) and 400 freestyle relay (second).
Individually, she swam in the 200 individual medley (third), 400 individual medley (third), 100 breaststroke (first) and 200 breaststroke (first).
Kristin Molloy, a Buffalo Grove alumna and Augustana freshman, swam in the 200 freestyle relay (23rd), 400 medley relay (14th), 200 medley relay (16th) and 800 freestyle relay (19th).
Individually, she swam in the 200 individual medley (32nd), 50 freestyle (82nd), 200 freestyle (49th), 100 backstroke (39th), 200 backstroke (29th) and 100 freestyle (75th). The Augustana women took fourth.
