OAK BROOK— In unofficial results, Elizabeth Chaplin of Downers Grove, Elmhurst Mayor Peter DiCianni and Bloomingdale Police officer Sean Noonan won election to the DuPage County Board.
Three seats representing District 2 were open on the County Board, with four candidates fighting for them. Chaplin and DiCianni battled for first place throughout the evening. Chaplin finished on top with 34,625 votes, followed by DiCianni with 34,044 votes. Noonan, with 33,348 votes, took the third seat by beating out Oak Brook Village Trustee Elaine Zannis, who received 33,258 votes.
Chaplin, who is a Democrat, joined forces with Republicans Zannis and Noonan to campaign against DiCianni. In campaign material, they claimed his desire to remain mayor if elected to the county board was based on his plan to collect two incomes. DiCianni has said he will resign as a mayor if elected and he has never sought elected office “for the goal of compensation.”
