Hinsdale resident comes home to find stranger in her house

HINSDALE — A woman who lives across from Burns Field Park in Hinsdale returned home to find a stranger standing in her kitchen. When the resident, who lives on the 300 block of West Hickory Street, asked the man what he was doing in her house, he said he was at the wrong address, Hinsdale police officials reported.
The stranger told the woman the address he wanted, which was not a valid address in Hinsdale, Deputy Police Chief Mark Wodka said. He then “left in a casual manner,” Wodka said.
The intruder, who had a shaved head and a medium build, and was about 6-feet tall, rode away on a bicycle. He was wearing a turquoise-colored T-shirt and denim cargo shorts.
The 63-year-old resident did not notice anything missing from her home. Wodka said there was no evidence that the house had been searched. The police believe the stranger entered through an unlocked door. The resident returned home at about 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1, after being gone only about a half-hour.
Police officers searched the area, but have no leads on who the intruder is. They suspect the incident may have been an attempted burglary, and are reminding residents to lock their doors and activate their security alarms when they leave the house.
Wodka also said if a resident should see a stranger in their home, they should not confront the person. It’s a potentially dangerous situation, Wodka said.
“Leave the house and call 911,” he said.
