Women in Science Fellowship program at Field Museum

The Women’s Board of the Field Museum hosted a Women in Science Fellowship program and luncheon on May 30 featuring the designs of A.V. Shinde, renowned jewelry designer for the legendary Harry Winston from the 1960s through the end of the century.
More than 400 guests attended the fundraiser, which raised $80,000 to sponsor fellowships for women scientists at the Field Museum. The event included a viewing of a variety of rarely seen Indian artifacts from the museum’s collections. A special video highlighted the scholarship for women scientists at the Field Museum and featured current and past fellowship winners.
Program speakers included Reema Keswani, expert on Indian jewelry and the only authorized biographer of A.V. Shinde, and Anthony Ledru, global vice president of Sales at Harry Winston Inc.
An Indian-themed luncheon was served in the museum’s Stanley Field Hall.
Charlene “Charlie” McCord, a Field Museum researcher, received this year’s Women in Science Fellowship award. Her work incorporates the fields of anatomy, biomechanics, neuroscience, and molecular phylogenetics to study the evolutionary relationship of neuromuscular form and functioning in the Tetraodontiformes (pufferfish, triggerfish and their relatives).
