Final National Merit Scholarship awards announced

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced Monday those high school seniors who have been awarded college-sponsored Merit Scholarships. These are scholarships provided by colleges to students who choose to attend their institution, and provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study. This is the final group of scholarship winners to be named this year.
Following are the names of area students, their hometown, probable career field, high school and the name of the college or university offering the scholarship.

Christine M.Schied of Indian Head Park, writing, Lyons Township High School, Northwestern University.
Joseph D. Rodden of La Grange, undecided, Fenwick High School, Vanderbilt University.
Pavlos-Ioannis Saramadis of La Grange, biomedical engineering, Lyons Township High School, Northwestern University.
Ravi Gupta of Oak Brook, mathematics/economics, Hinsdale Central High School, University of Chicago.
Patrick J. Morrissey of Western Springs, finances, Fenwick High School, Marquette University.
